I came across a weird but interesting message posted on a community in mixi this morning.
Can you read this seemingly puzzling sentences?  (^^)

Could you understand?
I guess most people can read it, because there's no difficult word in it and because it's easy to catch the drift.
Following sentences are what I rewrote those of it into (perhaps) correct words.

If you can read this, you have a strange mind too.
Can you read this?  Only 55 people out of 100 can.
I couldn't believe that I could actually understand what I was reading.
The phenomenal power of the human mind, according to a research at Cambridge University, it doesn't matter in what order the letters in a word are, the only important thing is that the first and last letter be in the right place.
The rest can be a total mess and you can still read it without a problem.
This is because the human mind does not read every letter by itself, but the word as a whole.
Amazing huh?  Yeah and I always thought spelling was important!!

I think we can see a similar phenomenon in Japanese too.
Even if there're some typos or grammar errors in writing, we can mostly read it, without even noticing them in some cases.
I, however, wonder if we can read Japanese sentences rearranged as drastically as English ones above.

100人中何人が読めるかどうかは、使われている単語や文章の難易度によるんじゃないかとは思いますが、ちょっとおもしろいですよね。　=＾-＾=
ただ、上の私が見た投稿文を普通の文章に書き直してみると、
phaonmneal　→　phenomenal 　：　"e"が１つ不足＆ "a" が１つ余る
rscheearch　→　research　：　"ch" が１つ余る
など、若干完全に並べ替えられない単語があるのは、作者のミスなのか、私の誤解なのか・・・？
私の間違いに気付いた人はご一報下さい。 m(__)m
あと、『最初と最後の文字が正しい位置にありさえすれば』 と書いている割に、"if" を "fi" としたり、"you" を "yuo" と並び替えていたりしますが、単語数が極端に少なくて、想像しやすい単語の場合は、最低限のルールも無視できるということなのかな？
実際、読めるしね。

人間は（一文字ずつではなく単語全体として読むだけでなく）話の流れや次に来る語を予想しながら文を読むということもしているので、タイプミスだらけの文章でもある程度は問題なく読めますが、日本語の場合、ここまで並び替えられちゃうと辛いかも。 （＾＾；
そもそも平仮名と漢字が混在する日本語で、単語単位でここまで並び替える事自体難しい？
『あざいめおうまごしでとけまてす』　さっぱりわからない・・・？
『あしまけて おとでめう ごいまざす』　この程度なら何とか。（何か根本的に間違ってるような・・・）
文節単位ぐらいで、厳密に品詞分解する必要はありませんよね？
だって私、日本語の正しい品詞分解ができない気がする・・・。
その前に 『あけましておめでとうございます』 の正しい文節って・・・？　~(=^‥^A

masochistic

Despite autumn eating when we can enjoy eating various kinds of food, I've had a low appetite for the last several days, probably due to some sort of side-effects of my medication.
Measuring my weight this morning, I've lost 1.5 kilograms down to 44.5 kilograms.
Because my height is 168.9 centimeters, I must say I'm underweight.
Although I think I have to eat more, I can't come up with what I want to at all.
I sometimes suffer from poor appetite, about once a month (it depends on my physical condition), but it's worse than ever this time.
I wonder if it's better to get my SO to buy something delicious on his way to my home.
Something delicious..., what is it?
I feel like having nothing but some vegetable juice.

I took out the Mainichi Weekly of this week's issue from the inside of my mailbox to find it featuring TOEIC.
Though taking TOEIC exam might be useful to realize one's objective evaluation of his/her English skill, I'm not interested in it so much for now.

やばい。　これ以上痩せるのはちょっと怖いぞ。
決してあばら骨が浮き出ているわけでもないし、お尻の辺りはもう少し減ってもいいのにと思うのに、どこが減っているのかわからないけど体重が落ちていく・・・。
一体どこの肉が・・・？　胸かしら？
時々こういう食欲不振に陥るんだけど、今回はキツイ。
出されたものは残さず、美味しく頂くのがモットーなのに～。
食べたいものが思い浮かばず、空腹に耐える方を選ぶ私って masochistic ♪
・・・そんな事言ってる場合じゃない。 orz

で、今週号の毎日ウィークリーは何故かTOEIC特集。
文法知識ゼロで、TOEIC対策本１冊だけ読んで初めて臨んだTOEICの結果が600そこそこ。
（注：TOEICが現在の形式になる以前の話です）
決して褒められる点数じゃないけど、当時の私のレベルよりもはるかに上の点数。
英語のできる人はほぼ確実に高得点を取れるけど、知識のない人間でもコツさえ掴めば何とかなるテストではあるようです。
そんなテスト対策に時間をかけるぐらいなら、面白そうな英語の本を少しでも多く読みたいかな。
とりあえず、鉛筆がしっかり持てるようになったら、その時はもう一度受けてみて、ショックに打ちひしがれてみるのも masochistic でいいかもね。

月月に月見る月は・・

Did you see the moon of the night before last, the harvest moon Princess Kaguya is said to have gone back to?
Unfortunately, I didn't.
Anyone to come for someone no longer came down from the moon to the earth, but I can feel it certainly brought onset of a full-fledged autumn to us.
The air of morning has been utterly changed, from the one of lingering heat of summer to the autumn one with no nasty humidity.
It makes my head of being terribly short of sleep a little clearer.
Yes, I stayed up late watching the Keisuke Kuwata's solo live DVD again.
I really love his solo live performances more than Southern All Stars' ones.
The music performances of members in his solo activities, who usually work as session players, are so cool.
I'd been in several bands as a Keyboardist in my high school and undergraduate days, so I'm still fascinated by skillful performances, especially keybordists' ones.
I know I should learn English harder when I have time to do such things, but I think anyone needs some sort of diversion sometimes.
Don't you think so?  (^^;

My wound on the left arm is still forming a large scab and started to itch.
By the way, do you know Scabbers, the name of Ron's mouse in the Harry Potter series, is said to come from "scab"?
If you want, look up the meanings of it in a dictionary.
You might find something indicating his role in the series.

『中秋の名月』 が "the harvest moon" となることに若干の抵抗を覚えるのは私だけ？
ハリ・ポタにも "lunacy （狂気・精神錯乱）" "lunatic （狂人・精神錯乱者）" 等々、『月』にまつわる表現がいくつか出てきましたが、Lupin先生が初登場する巻だから、わざわざこの単語を選んだってってわけでもないのかな？ どうなんでしょ？
珍しい単語でもないから気にしすぎかもしれないけど、J. K. Rowling という人はそこまで考えていそうな気もします。
スキャバーズの名前の由来になったと言われている "scab" にも 『スト破り』 という意味があって、『仲間を裏切って権力におもねる人』 のイメージがあるそうです。
"Diagon alley（ダイアゴン横町）" も "diagonally（対角線上に）" からきているとか。
マグルの世界と魔法界をつなぐ横町だからピッタリの名前ですよね。 =＾-＾=

ところで、単に自転車に乗っている時に壁にぶつかってできた傷の場合、"wound" は使えないんでしょうか？
私の中では 『傷』＝"wound" という図式があったんですが、改めて調べてみると、"an injury to your body that is made by a weapon such as a knife or a bullet" という意味だと書いてたんですよね。
壁はやっぱり武器じゃありませんよね～・・・。
で、"injury" はどうだろうと調べると、"a wound or damage to part of your body caused by an accident or attack"。
アクシデントといえばアクシデントなんだけど、何か大袈裟な気が・・・。
かといって、 "damage （physical harm that is done to something or to a part of someone's body, so that it is broken or injured）" も何となく違う気がする。
というか、『違う気がする』 という単語を用いて説明されている時点で訳がわからなくなる。
（"injury" を説明するのに "wound" や "damage" が使われてたり、"damage" の説明文の中に"injury" があったり！）
やっぱり "scratch" に修正するべきかな～？
こんなこと考えてると、寝不足の頭がショートして lunacy な世界に行っちゃいそう。
とりあえず、DVD鑑賞への lunatic な欲望をなんとかしないと・・・。 orz

現実逃避と人体再生（？）

I stayed up watching one of the Southern All Stars' DVDs till much later than usual yesterday, without learning English at all.
Naturally, even at this moment when I'm writing this diary, I have trouble keeping my eyes open, and my brain's not working.
Although I think I have no time to do such a thing, I sometimes, about once every few years, get a strong urge to watch Keisuke Kuwata's live DVDs.
It takes me an incredibly long time to do it, because I have 13 DVDs related to him.
I'd very much like to watch at least another one DVD, Keisuke Kuwata's live DVD released in 2003.
I guess it must be a sort of addiction.  (--;

By the way, my scratches on my left arm I suffered on my way to grocery shopping on September 15 are gradually forming scabs.
Center part of them is still far from recovery, but surrounding part completely scabbed and I already peeled almost all of them off enjoying my first experience in many years. (^m^*)
My new(?) skins having come out from under the scabs I peeled off are all pale pink!
I'm impressed in a strange way with my cells' efforts for recovery being done without giving up because of my age.

眠い。
こうなるとわかっていて、どうして何度も見たDVDが見たくなるのか自分でもわかりません。
でも、もう一本！ あと一本だけ見ていいかしら？
さっさと見てしまった方が、勉強に集中できるような気もするし・・・　というのは、いつもの現実逃避の言い訳？ ~(=^‥^A

自転車で壁に激突してできた傷も、周囲のかすり傷はほとんど全部かさぶたになり、久しぶりのかさぶた剥きを楽しみました。
中心部が完全に治るのはまだ時間がかかりそうですが、今から楽しみです。（？）
すっかりボケたかと思っていた私の細胞も、やる時はやるんですね。（？？）
『私もやらんかい』 って感じ。

ガソリン値下げ☆

Today is the last day of the three-day holiday with the first comfortable weather in a while.
The sky is completely covered with clouds which protect us from the flaming sun, and a little cooler air is surrounding us.
It's a perfect day to enjoy going out with friends, family or your loved one.
However for some people, it can be also the best day to read a book, listen to your favorite music or learn something.
Some people..., needless to say, one of them is me.
My plan of going out for today is only to get out for lunch to a nearby restaurant with my SO like a usual holiday.
It's my favorite cafe which serves delicious, hearty salad, pizza, pasta and so on.
Because I don't usually have dinner, it's essential for me to eat enough lunch chatting with someone important for me sometimes.

Hmm..., although it has been about six months since I started to write this blog, I still can't help feeling there are lots of something wrong or strange in my sentences.
And probably..., no, it's absolutely right.
While reading "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" listening to the audiobook, I sometimes feel as if even I can freely write anything I want to in English.
I wonder if the day will really come when I become able to do such dreamlike things.

ハリ・ポタや毎日ウィークリーなんかを読んでいると、『こう書けばいいんだ』 と思う瞬間が結構あるんですが、実際に自分で書くとなると、思ったようにいかないのは何故でしょうね。
何故も何も、読書量も知識も全く足りてないからだとわかってはいますが、日記を書く度にもどかしくなってしまいます。(T_T)

話は全く変わりますが、来年４月、ガソリン料金が半額になるかもしれないってご存じですか？
しかも５月にはもとの価格に戻るだろうから、４月にガソリンの買いだめ（！）が起こるかもしれないそうです。
ガソリン料金を倍に押し上げている特措法が2008年３月に期限切れになるからで、この調子で国会が運営されると、民主党の出方次第によっては十分に起こりうる事なんだとか。（テレビ情報）

半額になるのは結構な事だけど、その分、他にしわ寄せが来たり、騒動が起きるのは勘弁して欲しい。

さすが？ まさか？

I wrote on this blog yesterday what article is on the front page of this week's issue of the Mainichi Weekly.
Because it's soon after former Prime Minister Abe's resignation, and tomorrow is the day of the LDP presidential election, it's natural I was interested in the front page article of it, isn't it?
However, when I checked it which arrived yesterday evening, what article do you think I saw on it?
It's an article about a media event featuring Freddie Highmore and a Japanese famous comedy duo: Taka and Toshi!
The article about Abe is only devoted not more than one quarter space in the second page of it.
That might be just what I expected of it in a sense.
I'm definitely going to renew my subscription.

まさか今週号の一面記事がタカ・アンド・トシと Freddie Highmore の会見についてだとは思いませんでした。
さすがは毎日ウィークリー。
ニュースよりも、海外の俳優やアーティスト、スポーツ、観光、面白現地情報がメインです。
（政治関連の眠たくなるニュースやエッセイ（？）もそれなりにありますが・・・）

何せ、オーディオブックを聴きながら、１つの章を一通り読もうと思っただけで30分以上。

ギャグ？

I feel it's getting a little cooler like autumn days, at least early in the morning.
Although the sky is hazy blue as if being covered in a white translucent veil, and is like that of midsummer, the morning breeze is comfortable and cool enough to make me feel the coming of autumn.
Once going out of the house, however, we're exposed to the burning sunlight at once.
I couldn't help feeling on my way home from the hospital yesterday as if it was entirely useless to put on sunscreen under the sun like this.
I feel like the heat I got yesterday still remains in my body, though I guess it's because of my slight fever.

This week's issue of the Mainichi Weekly hasn't arrived yet.
What ariticle is on the fron page?
Is it about the former Prime mister Abe's surprising resignation?
The LDP presidential election?  Or, something else?
Mr. Fukuda seems to want to deny the reputation for his candidacy being regarded as the resurgence of factional politics.
I'm sorry to say this, but it might be a proof of your aging that you're accustomed to the old system so much that you can't accept the obvious fact.

国民が何が何だかわからないうちに首相が突然辞任して、あっけにとられている間に、自民党のお爺さん達の間では次期首相が決まっている。
まだ総裁選前だというのに、福田さんの首相就任も、福田さんを推した人のポストも決まっているようで、某所では 『おめでとうございます』 のかけ声が飛び交っているらしい。
で、『派閥政治の復活ではない』って？
最近のお笑いは質が落ちたんじゃないかと思っている私ですが、それでもここまで笑えないギャグは言わないぞ。

今さら脳内メーカー

Do you know Nounai-maker, a service provided on the Net to express someone's brain by a graphic and words determined from his/her name?
I think most people already know and tried this funny, dubious service.
Although I've known it for some time as well as many because I watched some TV programs dealing with it, I'd never tried it so far.
I saw, however, an article about it on Yahoo! yesterday.
So, I tried it, though a little too late,  (^^)

たった４個だけですが、『謎』があったので良しとしましょう。

ちなみに、私に暴言を吐いた友人の結果は、『私』『眠』『寂』『悩』がそれぞれ１つずつ、残りは全て『遊』というものでした。
・・・朝から晩まで働いてこの結果じゃ、悪態もつきたくなりますね。
体内メーカーも先程試してみましたが、これもイマイチ笑いに欠ける結果になってしまいました。
結果によると心臓が悪いそうですが、性根が悪いという意味かもしれません・・・。

明日は病院。　月曜が祝日だったから絶対混んでるな～・・・。 (/_<。)

現実逃避？

Although it's been 10 days since I got the audiobook of "Harry Potter of Prisoner of Askaban" on September 8, I'm just beginning to read the eighth chapter of it.
I'm already behind schedule: reading one chapter a day. (--;
It's okay, because I think the most important thing to me is to read and listen to it until I'm satisfied.
I wonder, however, when I can finish reading it.

Despite being in the situation like this, my thoughts sometimes run away from reading the book under my nose, and wander into the future world.
"What book should I read next?"
Though I think the best choice to me is to try "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince", it's so long that I'm not sure if I can read it through.
Also, I found some interesting books on the Net during my escape from reality.

"Never Let Me Go"

According to the comments, this is a science-fiction novel dealing with cloning, and is similar to a certain comic: "Kaguya-hime", "The Moon Princess" by Reiko Shimizu.
"Kaguya-hime"!!  I had read it for more than 10 years, from the time its first volume was released until the last.
One of the themes of it is: "What if you were a somebody else's clone person?"

"Flowers for Algernon"

There is nothing I have to say about this book.
As the story develops, the sentences and the words get more and more difficult.
However, I feel like it's easier to read than other books, because this book has explanations of the words.

"Emergency Murder"

I love mystery novels!!  (^^)

These days, I can't find anything to write on this blog.
Especially, today is the day after three-day holiday.
My mind is wandering somewhere else but here even now when I write my diary...

ハリ・ポタのオーディオブックや毎日ウィークリーは大喜びで読んでいますが、何故か日記を書く気になれない。
日記を書こうとPCに向かうと、すぐに関係のないページばかりを開いて、心はあらぬ方向へと彷徨い始めてしまいます。 (--;
そうやって彷徨うたびに面白そうな本に出くわしてしまうんですが、ハリ・ポタだって最終巻まで読み通したい。
あれもしたいし、これもしたい。　あぁ～、夢がふくらむわ～♪
・・・って、これは意欲的というよりもむしろ現実逃避？

壁☆激突

I got on my bike yesterday in order to go grocery shopping.
Shortly after starting to pedal, I noticed the air in the tires were pretty low, and my mind was fully occupied with it for a moment.
And when I came to the first intersection, I couldn't make the curve, bumped my left arm against the wall, and the front tire fell off the pavement into the gutter with the arm being scratched against the rough surface of it.
How careless I am....  (--;
I pulled up the front tire from the gutter and was about to check the scratch on the left front arm, when throaty laughter came into my ears from behind.
Looking back, I found one strange old man walking up to me with a calm smile on his face, and he said in a casual voice, "Oh, poor you.  Are you all right?"
I couldn't think of what to say at once and do anything but forcing myself to smile at him in embarrassment.
He passed me by only smiling, without showing any signs of worrying about my accident.
After that, I checked my wound and flinched at my heavier bleeding than I had expected, when a car coming up from behind stopped at my side.
"That must hurt?  Are you okay?  Be carefull!" said the driver who was still young with a old woman sitting in his passenger seat, contentedly smiling at me as if he had thought he was lucky to come across something funny.
And, he drove away without giving me enough time to reply to his words....

.....What was that?
Why don't people living in Osaka pretend not to see?
Why can they smile in front of someone who failed?
Maybe, it's in their nature to laugh away failures, and I like it.

自転車で壁に激突した人に出くわしたらどうします？
見て見ぬフリをしてその場をやりすごすか、大丈夫ですかと嘘でもいいから心配そうな顔をして声をかけるというのが、一般的な反応なのかなと思っていましたが・・・。
どうして大阪人は、笑いながら声をかけて、そのまま何のフォローもなしに通り過ぎるということができるの！
しかもわざわざ車を止めてまで！！ (/_<。)ﾋﾞｪｪﾝ
'sneer' や'giggle' でも 'smirk' でもなく 、あくまで 'smile' なんですけどね。

初めての体験にかなりショックを受けてしまいましたが、そうやって（人のであれ、自分のであれ）失敗も笑い飛ばしてしまうのが大阪の人の気質なのかもしれない。
どんな時も笑いを忘れないのが大阪人の強さなのかしらね。
そういうのは嫌いじゃありません♪ σ(o^_^o)

ちなみに私の傷は約４cm×５cmほどの擦過傷。
中心部はかるく身がえぐれて、一日たった今も血が滲み、生々しい傷跡を晒しております。
ステロイドを飲んでいるので一応消毒はしてますが、昨夜は熱いお風呂に傷口をつけるという小学生以来の行為を呻きながら楽しみました。（？）

泥船の航路

Yesterday, watching TV around noon, I was terribly surprised to see the sudden news which announced Prime Minister Abe would step down, probably as well as everyone else in Japan.
Although I have nothing to mention it any more, let me tell just one more thing.

How will the abduction issue turn out?

As I wrote on another blog on February 14, 2007 when the six-party talks was being held in Beijing that I still expected Prime Minister Abe would resolve the abduction issue even if he and his cabinet had various problems, I think one of the most expected things for the public is the settlement or any progress of the abduction issue, not the continuation of the Japanese Self Defense Forces' participation in the war in Afghanistan let alone the constitutional amendment.
I can't help worrying about where Japan is going.

Er..., my eyes were being fixed on TV news programs ever since the announcement, so I hardly read anything of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" yesterday.
No, I know it's nothing but my fault.
I'm not qualified to criticize somebody else's behavior, am I? (--;

あらら。　入院しちゃいましたね。＞安倍さん
『かわいそう』 という声もチラホラあるようですが、一般企業の課長さんじゃあるまいし、いかなる逆境も乗り越えるタフさと、あらゆる困難を克服する能力が求められるポストじゃないの？
参院選の後に辞任しなかったのも驚きだけど、せめて、結果はどうあれ、挑み続けるだけのタフさは見せてくれるかと思ったのに。
まぁ、当初期待してた拉致問題や改革の歪みの是正は最近ではすっかり影を潜め、安倍さんの口から出るのは国民の大多数が望んでもいないようなテロ特措法の延長ばかり。
国際貢献のためじゃなくて、アメリカのための特措法延期じゃないの？ と言いたくなるのは私だけじゃあるまい。
一番の問題は、総理大臣にふさわしい人がまるで見あたらないことかもしれない。
アニメ関連の株が上がっただけじゃね・・・・。 (--;
かといって小沢さんに期待できるわけでもなし。 (--;
人の事をとやかく言う資格なんてありませんが、この国がどうなるのか不安だわ・・・。

ディスクドライブ復活

I wrote on this blog on August 23 that I became unable to use the CD-R/RW disc drive in my PC due to some sort of device driver error.
Therefore, I'd had to use my component stereo in listening to the audiobook of Harry Potter or something since then.
That's one of my prized possessions, but it's kind of annoying to need to change CDs very often, isn't it?
So, I made up my mind to buy a new CD or DVD disc drive, and checked lots of pages on the Internet shopping mall yesterday.
While doing that, I noticed there were some unclear points in purchasing a new one.
For instance, the one I wanted is explained on its page that you don't have to install its device driver because it's been already included in your OS.
Even in my case of the very device driver being broken down, is it okay?
I opened device manager, checked the status of it again.
And, when I was also checking some other pages on system property, an idea came into my mind.
Restoration of the system!
I hadn't tried it yet!!
I decided to restore my PC to the state of two months ago when I confirmed its proper functioning, and clicked the enter key to run the program with my heart slightly pounding due to faint expectation and a thought that I shouldn't expexct too much.
And, minutes later...

It worked out well!!  (^o^)

Now, I can play the Keisuke Kuwata's new single I got on August 22 and the audiobook of Harry Potter on my PC!  v(^^)

ディスクドライブのドライバにエラーが出て、ディスクドライブが使えなくなったと書いたのは８月23日・・・。
私のコンポは音も良くて自慢の一品ですが、チェンジャー機能が付いていないので、ハリ・ポタの取り出しにくいオーディオブックからCDを度々取り出しては入れ替えるのはとっても面倒。
で結局、新しいドライブ、できればDVDも見れるのを買おうと思って、いろいろなページをチェックしてみました。
今の多少くたびれてきたPCが壊れても、新しいPCで使えるように外付型のDVDドライバに目をつけて調べてみると・・・
『インストールはソフトの示す手順通りやるだけ』  『OS標準装備のドライバを使用しているので、ドライバを新しくインストールする手間いらず』 といった説明があるものばかり。
・・・あの～・・・、まさにそのソフトを実行するためのディスクドライブが使えなくて、ドライバ自体も壊れてるかもしれないんですけど・・・大丈夫？

そんなこんなで、悩む前にお店に聞いてみようと思い、念のためエラーの出てるドライバの名前をデバイスマネージャーで確認して、ついでに『システムのプロパティ』上の他のページもチェックしてみてふと気付く。
そういえば、システムの復元はまだ試してない・・・。

システムの復元はWindows ME時代に何度かお世話になったけど、XPになってからは一度も使う必要がなかったから忘れてたわ。
でもドライバのエラーまで治せるかな？ などと半信半疑ながらもドキドキしながら、とりあえず２カ月前の状態に戻してみました。

で・・・ 大成功♪　＼(^O^)／

全く認識されなかったディスクドライブが正常に動き始め、大喜びで先日買った桑田さんのシングルCDと、ハリ・ポタのオーディオブック10枚中（！）とりあえず３枚分だけ取り込みました♪
あぁ、良かった。
こんな簡単な問題で１万円以上を無駄にしてしまうところでした。 ヾ(;´▽｀A``

読書の秋

These days, I feel it's getting cooler and cooler day by day.
It became a part of my morning routine to open the window and let in some fresh air and look out of the window for something by which I can feel the coming of autumn.
Although I've not found any clear signs of it yet, I can obviously feel it's around the corner.
Just as a certain Japanese man in the olden days said that ...

秋きぬと 目にはさやかに 見えねども 風の音にぞ おどろかれぬる

And!  I tried listening with my SO to the audiobook of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" I got on Saturday.
It's so interesting that it's hard for me to suppress my desire to want to read further than I can peruse.
Jim Dale's narration is easy for me to understand what he says, and makes each scene more alive and vivid.
Especially, Aunt Marge's voice is, er..., kind of a dangerous gag.  (^m^*)
Every time I listen to her line: "I have a very firm grip", I can't help bursting into a fit of laughter.
It's, however, a little too funny, so he seemed not to be able to bear to hear her for a long time.
Apparently, his highly skilled performance can be a double-edged sword for some. (^^;

『秋きぬと・・・』 と引用してはみたものの、秋の気配を感じられるほどの風は（今朝は）吹いてませんでした。
でも涼しくなったな～♪
台風が通り過ぎた後だから？　それとも秋が近くなったから？
まだしばらくは暑さがぶり返したりしそうですが、それでも着実に秋の気配を感じずにはいられない朝でした♪　=＾-＾=

で、ハリ・ポタのオーディオブック！
UK版に比べると、US版のオーディオブックは早口らしいのですが、さすがイギリス人。
とっても綺麗な発音で、聞き取りには全く問題ありません。
イギリス式の発音にとまどう事も多々ありますが・・・。(cf："either"を『アイーザー』と発音したり） ~(=^‥^A
それと、確かにUS版もUK版も文章としては困るほどの違いはありませんが（私のペーパーバックはUK版で、オーディオブックはUS版）、『変更する必要があるんだろうか？』 という箇所が結構目につきます。
"torch（英）" が "flashlight（米）"、"cutting（英）" が "clip（米）" etc... 等の変更は許せるとして、"It must very late.  Harry's eyes were...（英）" を "It must very late, Harry thought.  His eyes were...（米）" に変更する必要性って何？
Harryが主観として 『もう夜も遅いに違いない』 と思うのと、語り手（作者）が客観的にそう述べるのとでは、微妙だけど差があるような気が・・・
で、違いがある以上、作者に敬意を示して、できるだけ原文はいじらないで欲しいなと思ってしまいます。
Jim Daleさんの演技は、文句なし♪
発音も当然のことながら素晴らしい。
"flump" のラストの "p" は、発音のテキストブックについてきたＣＤで聞いたとおりの、無声の両唇破裂音！
ロンが大声で電話に向かって叫ぶシーンでも、エクセレントでブリリアントな （爆） 語尾の "m" "l" に、二人して拍手を送ってしまいました。
えぇ。 ブラボー♪ です。

【ＣＤを聞く→文章をもう一度精読（今度はわからなかった単語も辞書で調べてます）→ＣＤを２～３回聞き直す】 というサイクルで読み進めているので前回の倍以上時間がかかりそうですが、まぁ焦っても仕方がないので、のんびり楽しみながらやっていきます♪
９月に入ったばかりですが、【読書の秋・満喫中】 です☆　 =＾-＾=

あれもこれも

The audiobook of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" I ordered from Amazon is due to arrive today.
Checking its details on the Net after buying it, I was surprised to notice the fact that its running time is 11 hrs., 48 mins!
Too long, isn't it?
Well, I'm going to listen to it at a pace of about one chapter per day.
If I can do that, I should finish it in 20 to 30 days because this book has 22 chapters.
Hmm, I wonder if I can...

And, one more thing I noticed when I checked the narrator's HP.
Jim Dale, a British actor and the narrator (or, performer?) of this book, is

cited in the Guinness Book of World Records for creating more than 200 voices for the Harry Potter books, turns in another virtuoso performance in this series finale.

More than 200 voices!!  It's really amazing, isn't it?
My expectations for this audiobook have reached its peak. (^^)

Er..., as for my English learning I did yesterday..., I only browsed a few pages of the Mainichi Weekly. (--;
And, I'm shocked to know Shinko Murakami, who is a Japanese critical writer living in Paris and one of the writers of "Love Around the World", is scheduled to end her essay.
Her English sentences are always easy to read despite being beautiful and intelligent.
So, I'd looked forward to reading her essay every month.
I hope I can read again her article on different theme than that she used to deal with.

11時間48分もの長さのCDを買っちゃって、どうしましょ？ ~(=^‥^A
『とりあえず一通り最後まで聞いてみよ♪』 と思っただけで約12時間。
・・・ぶっ通しで半日・・・。　絶対無理。 orz
まぁ、１日１章ぐらいのペースで読み進めれば、全部で22章だから、最低でも１カ月ぐらいで読み終わる・・・かな？　~(=^‥^A

でもね、本当におもしろそうなの。＞オーディオブック
Jim Dale さんって、私は全く知らないんですが、ハリポタ最終巻では200人以上の声を演じ分けてギネス入りですよ。
200人も演じ分けるなんて大袈裟な・・・、と思わないでもなかったんですが、幾つか試聴してみた限りでは、本当に完璧に演じ分けてるかも。
興味のある方は、幾つか試聴してみてください。

５巻である人が死んじゃってから、ずっとハリ・ポタの続編への興味が失せてたのに、日に日に続きが気になる～！
おまけに１巻と２巻は何とか粗筋だけは覚えて入るんですが、４・５巻ってどんな内容だったっけ？
ところどころは覚えているんだけど、７～８割は忘れちゃってるわ。
（３巻でも半分は忘れちゃってたしな～・・・）
３巻をある程度読み込んだ後は、６・７巻の原書に取りかかるべきか、費用が嵩むのを気にせずに４・５巻を原書で読み直すべきか、それとも他のもう少し簡単そうな英書に一度チャレンジしてみるべきか・・・。
悩みは尽きない。
時間・体力・費用という厳しい現実に負けちゃいそう。
でも、やりたい事がたくさんあるのって幸せだ～♪　=＾-＾=

読破～♪

I finally finished reading "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban " all the way through! (^^)

I started reading on August 22nd, and finished it yesterday, September 6th.
This means it took me 16 days to read it from beginning to end despite having used the reference(?) book titled "Harry Potter vol.3 ga eigo de tanoshiku yomeru Hon ": Book that can make your reading of "Harry Potter vol.3" in English enjoyable.

Though I think it might be too long, but I was able to enjoy fully its fantastic magical world, and exciting and unexpected plot twist by using it.
In that sense, I recognize it's worth buying.

There're, however, two points I'm dissatisfied at in this reference book.

1. IPA: International Phonetic Alphabet, has not been mentioned at all.

2. Its criteria of which words to explain are unsound.

Well, I guess my second complaint is due to my lack of vocabulary, though. (^^;
And, I must say; the most important merit of using it is that you can understand the true meanings behind some characters' names and so on, and the English cultural background, both of which we Japanese tend to overlook.

Anyway, there's no doubt "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" is a highly excellent book. (^^)

１６日かけてようやく 『ハリーポッターとアズカバンの囚人』 を読み終わりました～♪
この本については、今更私が書く事もないので、ハリポタを読むために利用した 『ハリー・ポッター vol.3 が英語で楽しく読める本』 について少し・・・。

ハグリッドの訛りについては、この本の後ろで詳しく説明されているので、まずその説明を読んでおいた方がいいかもしれません。
スタンとアーニーの訛りについては、他の単語と同じように、ハリポタの流れに沿って説明されていますが、やっぱりこれも後ろの説明を読んでおいた方が無難です。
この説明がある事に気付かずに読み進め、最初、ハグリッドの訛りに悪戦苦闘してしまいました。
（例えば、"Yeh've got ter stroke 'em"。 "Yeh've" は"You've"、 "'em" は"them" だろうと予想はついても、"got ter" って何？ とパニクってしまいました。 落ちついて考えれば、"got to" だってわかるのにね）
また、単語が日本語だけでなく英語でも説明されているのはなかなかGoodです。
ただ、発音記号が載っていないのでマイナス１。
簡単な単語の説明は載っているのに、知りたい単語が載っていないのでマイナス１。
『どれが説明が必要な単語か』 の判断基準は人それぞれだとは思うけど、"fate"（運命）が載っていて、"extinguish"（消える） が載っていないのは納得できない～。
で、買って良かったな～と思ったのは、登場人物達の名前やニックネーム、呪文やいろんなものの名前に込められた意味や、イギリスの文化的な背景等についても書かれている事。
こういうのって、日本人にはわかりにくいもんね。

ハリ・ポタを読むにあたっては、時々『中学生程度の文法知識で読める』 と書いてある書評なんかを目にしますが、"if" を省略して主語と動詞を倒置する仮定法がたまにあったり、ちょっとした省略・倒置・挿入・強調を用いた文章にいたっては盛りだくさんなので、中学＋高校程度の文法は必要かと思います。
『総合英語 forest』 あたりを一通り読めば、まず問題なく読める程度じゃないかな？

で、一通り読み終わったわけですが、ハリ・ポタ vo.3 の朗読ＣＤ （US版） を買っちゃったので ~(=^‥^A、まだまだハリ・ポタな日々は続きます。
もう１カ月ぐらいは、魔法の世界を楽しむつもりです。　=＾-＾=

まだ終わらない

This morning is a little cool!  (^^)
I hear, however, on TV that a weather forecaster said it's going to get hot today too.
Yes, this summer is not over yet.

In recent days, I've finished reading this week's issue of the Mainichi Weekly and some chapters of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban", and I'm now reading the beginning of the chapter 17 of it.
The chapter 17!!  It's the most exciting part of this book!!
Besides, I went to bed after reading until the very part in which Harry and Black faced each other for the first time.
I want to read the continuation of it as soon as possible (instead of writing this blog).

And, as I wrote the other day, I read this book using the book which helps me read it easier.
Needless to say, the words already explained on the previous page of it aren't mentioned any more.
So, I must check it every time I come across a word I don't remember.
In doing so, I put a line under the word I looked up twice, and a star at the side of the word I did three or more times with red marker pen.
As you might expect, my book is filled with red signs.  (^^;

Anyway, my days of reading English books are not over yet, too.

やっと、ハリーとブラックが初めて対峙するシーンまで読み進めました♪
当然の事ながら、一度『ハリーポッターvol.3が英語で読める本』 で説明された単語は、２度目以降は説明されないので、それを調べ直すのに手間取ってますが （本のせいじゃありません。どうせ私のせいよー！(/_<。)ﾋﾞｪｪﾝ）、やっぱり面白いです。
何度も書いたとおり、日本版は一度読んだ事がありますが、その時はこんなに失笑したり、ウルッときたりはしなかったな～。
日本語だと聞き飽きた、敢えて悪く言うなら『陳腐なセリフ』も英語だと新鮮なんです。
（だって初心者だから。σ(o^_^o)　）
ハリーがハーマイオニーに 『両親が僕にどうして欲しいかなんてわからないよ。一度だって彼らと話した事がないんだから』 というようなセリフをいうシーンも、日本語だと 『ちょっと悲劇の主人公入ってるなー』 と、心のひねくれた私は思ってしまうんですが、今回はウルウル。
ハグリッドが 『みんな僕の授業、嫌いだし』 と落ち込むシーンでも、ハーマイオニーのセリフのト書きと、ロンが心の中でガッツポーズをしているに違いないセリフにもウケまくってしまいました。 (^m^*)

う～～ん・・・。 ３巻のオーディオブックが欲しいぞ。
『ハリーポッターvol.3が英語で読める本』 には（やっぱり前に書いたとおり）発音記号が載ってないので、発音を確認したいし、いつか６・７巻（かな？）を読む時のために、ある程度の単語は覚えときたいし、それに何より、ちょっと試聴してみたオーディオブックがおもしろそうなんですよね。
私のペーパーバックはUK版、私が買いたいオーディオブックはUS版ですが、UK版とUS版の違いも 『ハリーポッターvol.3が・・』 での説明を見る限り、大きな問題にはならないみたいだし・・・。
まぁ、もしUS版を試聴してみたいという方がいらっしゃれば、こちら へどうぞ。

－ Death Note －

I did almost nothing to learn English yesterday.  (--;
Er..., I read page 4,5 and 7 of the Mainichi Weekly, and some pages of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban".
That's it.
So, though I think I should read without writing this mistake-filled and pointless diary, I'm going to do because I don't think I will be able to write this blog tomorrow.
I bet it will be so short, though. (^^;

I watched "Death Note" yesterday.
It's sort of interesting, at least, better than I expected.
Although we can't become a God, can become a Death or a Devil, can't we?
It's really intriguing, but it's also a sad fact that I must admit we can as far as I know through news or something.
I think we make efforts all the harder because we're not perfect, and that therefore we are the human beings.
When someone thinks as if s/he were perfect, s/he might lose something important and essential for human.

And, one more thing.
Has L been killed really?  Without any tricks or camouflage?
If so, I can't help thinking it's not a pleasant ending.
And, is it only Deaths that can stop the man's stupid acts who turned into something like a Death or a Devil?
It's lamentable that Deaths are more human than the two main characters in the film, isn't it?

『Death Note』 の原作や映画でも、エルは死んじゃうんでしょうか？
『死んだと見せかけて実は・・・』 っていうのも無し？
で、ライトの暴走を止めるのも死神？
・・・それはあんまりにも情けないエンディングじゃない？
長いストーリーを端折って作られているので、原作を読んでいない私には言う資格ないかもしれませんが、あれじゃ死神の方がよっぽど人間らしく描かれてるじゃない！
誠実だけど全く無力な人間達と、デス・ノートで頭のねじが数十本まとめてぶっ飛んだ人間達と、頭が良くても結局デス・ノートに負けたエル・・・、ってことでいいの？
しかも、人間は神にはなれないけど、死神や悪魔のような、もしくはそれ以上に最悪なモノにはなれちゃうっていう事実もまた情けないわね。

原作か映画では違うエンディングになっていることを、ひっそりと、こっそりと、草葉の陰から （←ちがう！） 祈っております。 （－人－）なーむー。

This morning, it's really cool like a fresh autumn day for the first time in a long while!
Opening the window, I can feel the refreshing breeze with my whole body, and breathe the clear morning air.  (^^)
Although I can't hear little wild birds, like sparrows, singing, my cutest parakeet in the world (for me), Ruu, is now appealing to me to let him out of the cage.
... This cooler weather seems to make not only me but also Ruu active.  (^^;

The things I did yesterday for English learning were to finish reading the chapter 12 of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" and to read aloud the front page and "Japan Watch" of the Mainichi Weekly to the audio data on the "Mainichi shinbun Podcast".
Although I couldn't do a lot yesterday due to my fatigue, I'm in top shape today because I had a good rest.  (^^)
What I want to do today, however, is not to study English but to watch "Death Note" recorded yesterday.
It's surprising to know through TV and the Net that enormous numbers of foreign people in various countries are attracted to Japanese comics. isnt't it?
I've seen on the Net most of reasons for which foreign people came to want to learn Japanese are because they were interested in Japanese comics.
Besides, a lot of Japanese comics are translated into English and sold all over the world, and not only foreigners but many Japanese also buy them for English learning.
To be honest, I'd thought to try to buy any one of them, but I didn't because almost all of them sold for twice the domestic price!
It's too expensive!  It's just a comic!!
At the same time, maybe there is no longer any doubt that we can't regard them as just comics.

たくさんの日本の漫画が英訳されて世界中で売られている事も、楽しみながら英語を勉強するために、こういった漫画を利用している人が大勢いる事もしってますが・・・

高くない？

日本の国内価格の倍以上！
（『Death Note』 などは1000円以下で売られてたりしますが・・・。 人気が高くてそれなりの販売数を見込めるからかしら？）
今や『たかが漫画』と言えない諸状況もそれなりに熟知しているつもりですが、漫画にこの値段・・・
アンビリーバボー☆　としか・・・　　 ~(=^‥^A
それに私が好きな漫画が何一つ英訳されていないのも悲しい・・・。
（『イティハーサ』 とか 『少年は荒野を目指す』 とか 『ジュリエットの卵』 とかぁ～！！）
『Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms』（邦題：『夕凪の街桜の国』） なんかは買ってみる価値ありそうな・・・
