My condition is still not so good. :'(
I spent almost a whole day sleeping and moaning in my bed yesterday again, and neither read an article on this week's issue of the Mainichi Weekly nor even took out it from the mailbox.
I found, however, it featuring Canada and its music column written about Avril Lavigne's song Hot after getting it out this morning.
Yes!  I love Avril Lavigne!
I already know the song's lyrics and its meaning, though...  :-/
Just scanning it, I got to feel like eating some pancakes with a generous amount of maple syrup.  :D

coldsweats02

The Rose

I couldn't learn English at all for this last two days because of my headache and slight fever of 37.5C.
Cherry blossoms starting to bloom, however, cheered me up so wonderfully when I drove along the nearby row of cherry blossom trees with my SO, that I feel like I can do it today!
Yes, I'll do it!

By the way, do you know the movie titled The Rose, which is a 1979 musical-drama film and tells the story of a self-destructive 1960s rock star, Janis Joplin, who is said to have died from heroin overdose in 1970?
It's a little bit, maybe undoubtedly, old-fashioned, but makes me in tears every time I watch it. (I have a DVD of it.)
The more Rose the heroine of the same name is loved by her enormous numbers of fans, the more badly she suffers from loneliness and becomes addicted to drugs.
Selfish, hysterical and so foolish as to drown herself in alcohol and drugs though she is, nevertheless her performance is amazing enough to give me goose bumps, and she finally dies from heroin O.D. on her stage after singing Stay With Me...
Please never misunderstand.
Bette Midler, who played the role of Rose in the film, appeals in her song, The Rose, to us not to run away from our problems, to give and to live, because spring definitely will come.
The song is also really great.

This is the scene of Rose singing Stay With Me on her last stage.

And this is a video of Bette Midler singing The Rose on her own stage.

Please listen to it, if you'd like. (^^)

「The Rose」
Bette Midler
Where's everybody going?
crying

What do you think Takashi Omori , who, according to what Keisuke Kuwata said on his radio program and what he reportedly said himself, has decided to leave Southern All Stars of his own free will and accord, and who's been sentenced to two years and six months imprisonment with four years suspension of sentence for illegal drugs possession and use, wrote in his blog that he would like to play for his fans in the Southern All Stars' 30th anniversary live supposed to be held this year because there was no reason his appearance in the event was not to be allowed, despite the fact he IS still on probation?
"There is no reason"?
How could he write such a thing on the Net?
It's outrageous!  I can't believe what he wrote!
I doubt he has enough sense to understand the situation he's in now.

He possessed and used not only marijuana but large amounts of stimulant drug when he was arrested.
I know some people say there is nothing wrong with smoking marijuana because it's free of side-effect and nonaddictive, and I can't deny it's safe to human health beause of my lack of my knowledge about it, but where does the money that's paid for it come from and go, and what is the money used for?
At least in today's Japan, where these drugs are prohibited by law, it's obviously unlikely the money is used for the sake of the public welfare.

Though I also know there are such questions as "If those people who were arrested, and finished their sentences or are on probation, have to be blamed for their past mistakes, how can they work?" I must say that's just the punishment the person must receive in the real community.
The important thing is I think to continue their struggles to retrieve their own social lives, helped by their company and supporters, isn't it?

Anyway, the most shocking thing to me is the fact that there are those who can shamelessly write in on the Net as if they show off their criminal acts and egg people on to try it.
Hopeless idiots, they are.

I found I hadn't been able to read even thirty pages a day at least for this last three days.
Why can't I speed up my reading despite feeling the number of times of looking up dictionary has gradually decreased?
There seems, needless to say, to be a lot of problems I have to solve to improve my English skills.

Oh, one more thing.
Ruu the budgerigar got into his brand-new cage last night without noticing at all it was no longer his familiar house, where he'd lived since the moment he was born.
I'm glad he is a bird-brain. (It's just a joke, Ruu. coldsweats01 )

Is this all because I forgot to say happy birthday to Ruu the budgerigar on his birthday?
It was when I was cleaning up his cage last Tuesday that with a ominous clang his cage suddenly broke down.
I thought it was likely to get broken before long, considering it had been nearly 10 years since I got it for his grandparents in Kyoto.
If, however, I got a new completely different cage from old one, different-colored or different-shaped one, for instance, he would undoubtedly panic and not want to get into it.
So I bought a new and almost the same cage for him at a nearby pet shop first thing in this morning.
The same-colored, same-sized and same-shaped one, except it's glittering a little more brightly.
What a joyless purchase.
I've already put it together and placed it on its usual place, on the shoe cupboard, and Ruu, the very bird for whom I've worked from this morning, however, hasn't noticed anything yet.
I hope he will remain not to notice any difference when he enters the brand-new cage at night.

Though having almost completely forgotten about it because I was preoccupied with something else, March 14th, known as White Day, of 2008 was my little Ruu the budgerigar's eighth birthday.
I'm sure I kept it in my mind firmly, and that I thought I should say to him "Happy birthday," ...until going to the hospital on March 13th.
Suddenly remembering it when watching him pecking at the feed delightedly yesterday evening, I tentatively offered him a very belated Happy Birthday.
He seemed to me not to care when his birthday is, or whether his birthday comes or not.
Knowing living today as happily and calmly as yesterday is the most important thing to him, I also didn't do anything special to celebrate his (a little belated) special day except giving him some leaves of komatsuna.
Big presents or surprises seems to be nothing but terror to him, which is, in a sense, a big help to me.
Anyway, he's reached eight years old of age, and I hope from the bottom of my heart that he can continue to enjoy his peaceful life for a long, long time to come.
I love you, Ruu!

I went to the hospital yesterday and was so shocked when my doctor said I needed to increase my steroid dosage from 5 to 7 mg a day that I could hardly believe what he said.
Though I've not suffered from its noticeable side-effects yet, I can't say with confidence I'll remain not to do after increasing the dosage.
I couldn't relish the scent of spring having come a little early at all on my way home despite the fact that yesterday was a wonderfully beautiful day, warm, plum trees in full bloom, and everything I saw shining and bright in the gentle sunlight.
I neither could read even one line of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix nor do anything I had to do yesterday.
I know there's no point to worry about things I have no control over, but his words brought me down so terribly that I couldn't think like that about the possible side-effects caused by steroid.
The fact remains, however, that I just do what I can.
When thinking like that. I sometimes feel it's a bit weird that we can't control even our own organs or cells despite their being part of our bodies.
Don't you think so?
I also sometimes wonder whether it means I'm made alive by something or someone beyond words, or just tortured by none other than myself until I get to want to die.
The idea of the later is really ridiculous and one of those a person like a drama queen might have, and I hate such a kind of people.
I'll never let it me down anymore.

sleepy

Tonks joined them for a memorable afternoon in which they found a murderous old ghoul lurking in an upstairs toilet, and Lupin, who was staying in the house with Sirius but who left it for long periods to do mysterious work for the Order, helped them repair a grandfather clock that had developed the unpleasant habit of shooting heavy bolts at passers-by.

I know it's a little sudden to say this, but my theme of this year is "disposal," to get rid of everything in my room I don't need any more.
As a matter of fact, I've already put this idea into action since the beginning of February, when I started to quit smoking.
It might be thanks to my uncontrollable frustration caused by smoking cessation that I suddenly noticed my room was so full of unwanted things that there was no space to place anything I newly bought, and that I thought I could no longer stand this state.
Anyway, I've been gathering things to dispose of and throwing them out little by little every trash day.
The problem, however, is to decide what to keep and what to get rid of, and how and when to discard them.
Books, a pile of papers and letters, floppy disks and CDs I used to use and don't need any more, shoes and clothes, and a mountain of useless things which I thought might come in handy and I don't know why now, etc.
There are too many kinds of things each of which needs a different disposal method to deal with at a time, and besides, it's hard to say goodbye to things I used to like or use, but I'm coming to think it's great fun to see the space in my room getting larger bit by bit.
It's almost addictive and makes me want to buy something new to display!
If I really did it, however, I'd be a complete fool to "put the cart before the horse."

A twinge of sorrow

・...and I had given up hope, now, that any of my Death Eaters cared what had become of me...."

For, hungry one night, on the edge of the very forest where he had hoped to find me, he foolishly stopped at an inn for some food... and who should he meet there, but one Bertha Jorkins, a witch from the Ministry of Magic.
who, whatと共にbutを伴って、過去の意外な事柄を示す "should"

There was no hope of stealing the Sorcerer's Stone anymore, for I knew that Dumbledore would have seen to it that it was destroyed.

I want to see Hagrid in my office as soon as possible. Also ― if she will consent to come ― Madame Maxime."

          - from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire -

And I'll write down some sentences I felt a sharp twinge of sorrow in my heart as my eyes followed.

"Severus," said Dumbledore, turning to Snape, "you know what I must ask you to do. If you are ready...if you are prepared..."
"I am," said Snape.
He looked slightly paler than usual, and his cold, black eyes glittered strangely.
"Then good luck," said Dumbledore, and he watched, with a trace of apprehension on his face, as Snape swept wordlessly after Sirius.

After spending 28 days struggling with so many English sentences that I wondered if I really could read it through, I finally finished Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire yesterday.
I thought the fourth volume was the least exciting and interesting one in the Harry Potter series; however, I can't deny I was surprised at some facts I'd forgotten ever since I last read a Japanese version of it when it came out years ago, and really enjoyed it.
Yes, I think there's no doubt it's one of the books worth reading, after all.
At the same time, I feel like the Harry Potter series starts to show another aspect of it a little more clearly from this volume.
Another aspect, I mean, is that it's just part of the long path leading to the amazing ending.
Though we can enjoy each book from the 1st to the 3rd as if it were a one-shot story, much more pleased with each ending rather than anxious about Harry's future, we can't help getting more and more worried about him after that, yes, until we finish reading the final volume of it.

And now, the next book to read is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the fifth and longest book in the Harry Potter series, and I've already gotten a copy of the UK version of it.
(I was going to buy one of the US version, but somehow they are sold out at Amazon.)
I don't want to think about how long it will take me to read it through.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phenix (UK版)。

The Golden compass, directed by Chris Weitz, is based on the first book in Philip Pullman's best-selling "His Dark Materials" trilogy of children's novels.
三部作

・The thing about poetry that intrigued Phillips from the beginning was that it enables us to say something that goes unsaid.

          -from the Mainichi Weekly -

・"But I had my wand hidden up my sleeve," he asuured Padma Patil, who seemed to be a lot keener on Ron now that he was getting so much attention and was making a point of talking to him every time they passed in the corridors.
必ず~する、= "make it a point to do"

・"Well," said Sirius slowly, "I wouldn't put it past Mad-Eye to have searched every single teacher's office when he got to Hogwarts.

What's the betting she comes back with a box of I Hate Rita Skeeter badges?" said Ron.

I've got her number now! Tryin' ter get back in me good books, tryin' ter get me ter tell her what's comin' in the third task.
(正しくは "in one's good books") : ~に気に入られて、好かれて

・"But under his own steam?" said Hermione eagerly, "or because someone made him?"

Should be right up your street, this one," said Moody, looking up at Harry and scratching his scarred and stubbly chin.

A few hexes wouldn't go amiss either.

Rita Skeeter goes out of her way to cause trouble, Amos!" Mrs. Weasley said angrily.

         - from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire -

Though I forgot how it is written in Japanese edition, the riddle of English version a sphinx asked Harry in his final task is interesting.
It's this:

"First think of the person who lives in disguise,
Who deals in secrets and tells naught but lies.
Next, tell me what's always the last thing to mend,
The middle of middle and end of the end?
And finally give me the sound often heard
During the search for a hard-to-find word.
Now string them together, and answer me this,
Which creature would you be unwilling to kiss?"

         - from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire -

The answer is down below.
If you don't want to know, don't scroll down this page.

The answer : Spider(蜘蛛)
スフィンクスが出てくることも忘れてたし。σ(^_^;

I'm so sleepy, I feel these days as though no sooner did I fall into bed and a deep, dreamless sleep than my alarm clock unmercifully rang to wake me up.
I guess most of people feel the same way.
I know I'm not the only one who is forced to fight against drowsiness to get through every day, working, doing housework, and learning for self-development.
Probably, I'm not also the only one who feels like s/he has a lot more things to do or consider than usual whenever s/he is in such a not-so-great condition, am I?
And what is worse, I made a promise I didn't have the slightest intention of doing until then with a friend of mine.
Oh, I can't believe what I did myself!
Maybe it's because I was a little too happy to know well what I was talking about because I was enjoying a nice dinner with my friends to celebrate my having spent a month without smoking even one cigarette at the time, of course, drinking.
Hmm..., though I'm going to make every effort to keep my promise with her, I must say nobody knows whether or not I'll be able to make it and get good results.
Be careful about what you're saying, especially when drinking!

I have too many things to write down in my usual entry because I update this blog much less often than before.
